According to the NY Post, Metro had two new trialists in practice today. One is former Serbian international midfielder/forward Veljko Paunovic.

Paunovic, 31, spent 14 seasons in various European leagues, including stints with Partizan, Atletico Mardid, Real Mallorca, Hannover 96, and Getafe. His most prolific season came with Tenerife in 2002/03 when he scored 18 goals in 38 matches. The Macedonian-born Paunovic was capped twice for Yugoslavia/Serbia and Montenegro. He has retired from soccer on December of 24th of last year... but who can say no when Metro calls?

If Paunovic is to sign, he will be the second Serb in Metro history, following the never-to-be-forgotten Sasa Curcic, who, coincidentally, joined midway through the doomed 1999 season.

The other trialist is fullback Alvaro Franco, who played college soccer at West Florida, according to the Post.

He didn't stay anywhere longer than one season. I'm hoping Veljko is in good shape.
